CNC Machined Housings
We manufacture custom CNC machined housings from customer drawings and CAD files, including electronic enclosures, gearbox housings, pump housings and volutes, valve bodies, bearing housings, sensor and transducer housings, instrument cases, junction boxes, motor end bells, RF and waveguide housings and hydraulic manifolds. Our 3-axis and 5-axis CNC milling, drilling, boring, deep-hole drilling and thread-milling capabilities produce accurate, leak-tight housings for machinery, automation, hydraulics, motors, electronics, instrumentation and outdoor equipment.
A housing contains and protects components, so bore concentricity, sealing-face flatness, wall thickness, pocket position and thread location decide whether internals fit, rotate true and seal against pressure or ingress. We machine housings from aluminum (6061-T6, 6063-T5, 7075-T6, 5083), stainless steel (303, 304, 304L, 316, 316L, 17-4 PH), carbon and alloy steel (1045, 4140, 4340, Q355-type plate), brass (C36000, C46400), copper (C10100, C11000) and titanium (Grade 2, Grade 5), machined from solid block and plate - not cast - so internal features are cut to the drawing for prototypes and low-volume production. Parts are manufactured to specified dimensions, tolerances, materials and finishing requirements, with material certificates available on request.

Housing Geometry & Sealing Features
Housings are defined by their internal and mounting features. The items below decide whether internal parts fit, rotate true and seal. We machine them to drawing, and tighter on request.
| Feature | Typical Capability | Why It Matters for Housings |
|---|---|---|
| Bore / Bearing Seat | ±0.01–0.02 mm; H7 with run-out <0.01 mm | Shafts and bearings run true and last longer |
| Sealing-Face Flatness | 0.02–0.05 mm over the face | O-ring and gasket faces seal without leakage |
| Wall Thickness | ±0.1–0.2 mm (precision to ±0.05 mm) | Strength, pressure rating and weight control |
| Pocket & Cavity Position | ±0.03–0.05 mm | Internal parts clear and seat correctly |
| O-Ring Grooves | Profile and depth ±0.05 mm | Repeatable seal compression on lid and port faces |
| Mounting Hole Pattern | ±0.05–0.1 mm (precision to ±0.02 mm) | Housings bolt up to frames and equipment |
| Threaded Inserts & Holes | ISO 6g / 6H or per drawing | Lids, ports and fittings attach securely |
| Dowel & Locating Features | ±0.01 mm reamed locations | Lids and halves register and repeat |
| Surface Roughness | Ra 0.8–3.2 μm; Ra 0.4–0.8 μm on request | Sealing faces, bearing bores and appearance |
| Critical Dimensions | ±0.01 mm (precision to ±0.005 mm) | Gauge-quality and alignment features |
Critical Features We Control
Bores & Bearing Seats - turned and bored concentric, with run-out controlled so shafts and bearings run true.
Sealing Faces - lid, flange and port faces machined flat, with O-ring grooves cut to profile and depth.
Internal Pockets - cavities, ribs and ribs machined in one setup or with datums carried between setups for repeatability.
Wall Thickness - held uniform for strength, weight and pressure rating on thin-wall housings.
Threads & Inserts - metric, UNC/UNF and special threads with correct depth and strength; helicoil and press-in inserts on request.
Identification - part numbers or laser marking on request for traceability and assembly.
Heat Treatment & Stress Relief for CNC Housings
Loaded steel and high-strength aluminum housings are heat treated as specified by the drawing. Stress relief before finish machining keeps thin and large walls dimensionally stable.
| Heat Treatment | Applicable Grades | Typical Housing Parts |
|---|---|---|
| Quench & Temper | 1045 · 4140 · 4340 | Gearbox, bearing and hydraulic housings |
| Solution + Aging | 17-4 PH · 7075-T6 | High-strength stainless and aluminum housings |

| Normalizing | Carbon steel plate | Structural and weld-prep housings |
Surface Finishes for CNC Housings
Surface finish protects housings and prepares them for assembly, painting or anodized appearance requirements - while keeping sealing and bearing faces machined to standard.

Prototype & Low-Volume Housing Machining
Housing projects often start with prototypes - new designs, fit checks of internal assemblies or replacements that must be tested before production. Machining from solid block avoids tooling and casting lead times, so prototypes and low volumes are practical. We support prototype and low-volume CNC machining from single samples to repeat small-batch orders.
