The ASTM B338 GR9 tube is a high-performance titanium alloy tube made from Ti-3Al-2.5V, also known as Grade 9 titanium. This alloy combines the light weight and corrosion resistance of commercially pure titanium with enhanced strength from the alloying elements aluminum (3%) and vanadium (2.5%). Applications - Bicycle Frames
GR9 is a common choice for bicycle frames due to its high strength, stiffness and weldability, and it is relatively affordable compared with other alloy titanium grades. A Grade 9 tube makes a strong, durable and lightweight frame, essential for cycling performance; tube diameter and thickness can be customized to achieve desired stiffness and weight, and cold drawing improves strength and stiffness for high-performance frames.
