TA7 Titanium Plate

What is TA7 titanium?

TA7 titanium plate is an industrial pure titanium material, corresponding to the U.S. designation Gr.5 (Ti-6Al-4V) and classified as an α+β type duplex titanium alloy under Chinese national standards. Due to its excellent comprehensive properties, it is widely used in aerospace, medical, chemical, and other fields.

Chemical Composition and Microstructural Characteristics

The main components of TA7 are aluminum (Al) and tin (Sn) added to a titanium (Ti) matrix, with a nominal chemical composition of Ti-5Al-2.5Sn. Aluminum, as an α-phase stabilizer, significantly enhances the alloy's strength at both room and elevated temperatures and improves its oxidation resistance. Tin, a neutral element, primarily contributes to solid-solution strengthening.
In its equilibrium state, this alloy consists of the α-phase (hexagonal close-packed structure) and a small amount of the β-phase (body-centered cubic structure), making it a typical α+β duplex titanium alloy. It combines the good thermal strength and weldability of α-type alloys with the potential for some heat treatment strengthening characteristic of β-type alloys.

Primary Performance Characteristics

Mechanical Properties
TA7 has a high specific strength. Its room-temperature tensile strength can reach over 860 MPa, significantly higher than industrial pure titanium grades. It maintains good endurance strength and creep resistance within the 300~500°C temperature range, making it an ideal material for medium-temperature service environments. The alloy also retains moderate plasticity, with elongation typically not less than 10%, offering good potential for forming and processing.

Corrosion Resistance
Inheriting the inherent advantages of titanium, TA7 exhibits excellent corrosion resistance in oxidizing and neutral media. It is particularly resistant to atmosphere, seawater, chlorides, and most organic acids. A dense, stable oxide film forms on its surface, providing long-term protection.

Processability
TA7 has good hot workability, including forging, rolling, and extrusion, but process temperatures must be strictly controlled to avoid microstructural inhomogeneity. Its cold formability is moderate, with intermediate annealing required for complex shapes. The alloy's weldability is excellent, allowing for various methods like argon arc and electron beam welding. Post-weld annealing is generally recommended for stress relief.

Heat Treatment Processes

The common heat treatment for TA7 is annealing, which includes full annealing and stress relief annealing. Full annealing temperatures are typically selected within the 700~850°C range, followed by air or furnace cooling, aiming to achieve a balanced microstructure and property profile. By adjusting specific process parameters, the strength, plasticity, and toughness of the material can be controlled within a certain range.

Typical Application Areas

Aerospace: Used to manufacture critical components such as engine compressor disks, blades, and casings, as well as airframe structures like skeletons, skins, and fasteners, fully utilizing its high specific strength and heat resistance.

Shipbuilding: Applied in marine seawater piping systems, hull components, and deep-sea exploration equipment, relying on its excellent resistance to seawater corrosion and impact.

Chemical Equipment: Used to manufacture corrosion-resistant containers, heat exchangers, pumps, valves, and piping systems, especially in harsh environments handling media like chlorides and nitric acid.

Medical Implants: After biocompatibility assessment and special surface treatment, it can be used to manufacture certain orthopedic implants and surgical instruments. Applications in this field must comply with strict medical standards.

Titanium product packaging

We place great emphasis on the transportation safety and delivery quality of our products. All titanium materials are packaged using strict industrial-grade solutions: titanium tubes and bars undergo anti-rust treatment, are tightly wrapped with waterproof stretch film, and then placed in reinforced wooden or iron boxes lined with moisture-proof paper, with fillers added to prevent sliding and collisions during transportation. Titanium plates and strips are covered with protective film, fitted with edge protectors, separated layer by layer with moisture-proof paper, loaded onto sturdy wooden or steel pallets, and securely fastened with steel straps. Fine titanium wires are neatly coiled onto specialized spools and encapsulated in sealed boxes that are waterproof and dustproof. Each packaging unit is accompanied by clear product labels, material certificates, and moisture-proof indicators, ensuring that the goods remain intact, clearly labeled, and safely delivered to global customers through long-distance sea freight and multimodal transportation.
