1. Melting
A mixture of titanium sponge and master alloy is melted using plasma or electron-beam technology to produce a high-purity, tubular hollow ingot. Raw-material ratio, melting temperature and melting time are precisely controlled to ensure the optimal chemical composition and microstructure. Traditional cylindrical ingots are drilled into tube blanks, and titanium chips are recycled for remelting to improve material utilization and reduce cost.
2. Forging
The as-cast tube blank is heated to a specific temperature and undergoes three radial forging passes; each pass requires a new mandrel, and the tube's deformation and movement speed are strictly controlled. Through this series, the cross-section transforms from an outer square with an inner circle, to an outer octagon with an inner circle, and finally back to a circle. Temperature and speed control are crucial, directly affecting mechanical properties, microstructure and surface quality. Advanced testing and quality control are applied during forging to ensure every detail meets standards.
3. Quality and Delivery Notes
Confirm the grade, standard edition (ASTM B338/B861 and equivalents), dimensions, surface condition and test requirements with the supplier; verify against the material certificate before use.
