In industrial production, titanium flange forgings (including forged-rolled pieces), as critical connecting components, directly impact the safety and stable operation of the entire equipment. Therefore, the manufacturing process and technical requirements for titanium flange forgings must be strictly controlled. Below is a detailed explanation of the technical requirements and manufacturing standards for titanium flange forgings:
Forging (Including Forged-Rolled Pieces) Grades and Material Requirements
Forging Grades: The grades and technical requirements for forgings must strictly comply with the relevant provisions of the JB4726-4728 standards.
• Carbon steel and austenitic stainless steel forgings with a nominal pressure (PN) ranging from 0.25 MPa to 1.0 MPa may adopt Grade I forgings.
• Forgings with a nominal pressure (PN) ranging from 1.6 MPa to 6.3 MPa must meet the requirements of Grade II or higher forgings, unless otherwise specified.
• Forgings for flanges with a nominal pressure (PN) ≥ 10.0 MPa, chromium-molybdenum steel forgings with a nominal pressure (PN) > 4.0 MPa, and ferritic steel forgings with a nominal pressure (PN) > 1.6 MPa and operating temperature ≤ -20°C must meet the requirements of Grade III forgings.
Material Requirements: Forgings must be made of high-quality titanium materials that comply with relevant standards, ensuring that the chemical composition, mechanical properties, and microstructure meet the design requirements.
Flange Manufacturing Process and Quality Requirements
Manufacturing Process: Welding neck, slip-on, socket weld, and threaded flanges are generally manufactured using forgings or forged-rolled processes. If steel plates or section steel must be used for special reasons, the following requirements must be strictly adhered to:
• Steel plates must undergo ultrasonic testing to ensure no lamination defects.
• Steel plates must be cut into strips along the rolling direction and formed into rings by bending and welding. The cylindrical surface of the ring must be formed from the surface of the steel material. It is strictly prohibited to directly machine steel plates into welding neck flanges.
• The butt welds of the rings must be full-penetration welds to ensure weld strength and sealing.
• The butt welds of the rings must undergo post-weld heat treatment and be subjected to 100% radiographic or ultrasonic testing. Radiographic testing must meet the Grade II requirements of the JB4730 standard, while ultrasonic testing must meet the Grade I requirements of the JB4730 standard.
Neck Taper: The external taper of the neck for slip-on, socket weld, and threaded flanges must be strictly controlled to no more than 7° to ensure sealing performance and installation convenience.


Other Special Requirements
Surface Quality: The surface of forgings must be smooth, free from cracks, folds, inclusions, and other defects. For forgings requiring surface treatment, processes such as sandblasting, pickling, and passivation must be performed in accordance with relevant standards to improve corrosion resistance.
Dimensional Accuracy: The dimensional accuracy of forgings must comply with the requirements of the design drawings and relevant standards. Key dimensions must undergo strict inspection and measurement to ensure they meet usage requirements.
Marking and Packaging: Forgings must be marked in accordance with regulations, including information such as material, specifications, grade, and production date. Additionally, forgings must be properly packaged to prevent damage during transportation and storage.

Only in this way can the quality and performance of titanium flange forgings meet usage requirements, providing a strong guarantee for the stable operation of equipment.
