Basic Characteristics

Titanium alloy TA7 is an α-type titanium alloy primarily composed of titanium, aluminum, and tin. Its typical composition includes approximately 5% aluminum and 2.5% tin. This formulation provides high strength at room temperature while maintaining good plasticity. Typical property values include a tensile strength around 800 MPa, an elongation of about 10%, and a density of approximately 4.5 g/cm³.

 

In terms of heat resistance, TA7 maintains stable performance at elevated temperatures. It can operate long-term in environments up to 500°C, with short-term use possible at temperatures reaching 800°C. The alloy has good oxidation resistance, forming a dense oxide film in high-temperature air that prevents further oxidation.

 

Its coefficient of thermal expansion is relatively low, about 9×10⁻⁶/°C. However, its thermal and electrical conductivity are not high, necessitating attention to heat dissipation during machining.

Application Areas

Aerospace: Used to manufacture components such as engine compressor blades and casings, which require operation at elevated temperatures, light weight, and sufficient fatigue strength.

Chemical Equipment: Employed in reaction vessels, heat exchangers, and piping systems due to its good corrosion resistance against various media, including some acidic environments.

Shipbuilding: Its good corrosion resistance in seawater makes it suitable for marine engineering equipment like ship propellers and submarine components.

Sports Equipment: Applied in high-end products like bicycle frames and golf club heads, where its lightweight and high-strength properties are advantageous.

Processing and Handling

Processing TA7 alloy requires special attention to its characteristics. Its high deformation resistance makes cold working difficult; therefore, hot working within the temperature range of 800-950°C is typically required, with strict temperature control to prevent overheating.

 

It has good weldability, suitable for methods like argon arc welding and electron beam welding. Protective gas is necessary during welding to prevent oxidation, and post-weld annealing is recommended for stress relief. Annealing is generally performed at 700-800°C, with holding time depending on part thickness.

 

For machining, using carbide tools with lower cutting speeds and larger feed rates is advised. Ample supply of coolant is essential. The alloy's surface is prone to scratching, so protective measures are needed during handling.

 

TA7 cannot be strengthened by heat treatment; only annealing processes (recrystallization or full annealing) are applicable to improve microstructure. Atmosphere control during heat treatment is crucial to prevent excessive oxidation.

 

During storage and transport, measures should be taken to prevent surface contamination and mechanical damage. Rust-proof packaging in a dry environment is recommended for long-term storage. Alloy scrap can be recycled but should be stored separately from other metals.

 

Surface treatments such as sandblasting, polishing, and anodizing (for decorative colored surfaces) can be applied. Special activation pretreatment is required for plating to ensure coating adhesion.

Titanium product packaging

Our packaging is designed for maximum security and international standards. We use tailored wooden crates for heavy plates and bars, with internal waterproof wrapping and blocking to prevent movement. Tubes and coils are securely packed in wooden boxes with reinforced edges and protective end caps. For smaller items like wires and strips, we use standard export cartons with inner plastic and moisture-proof sealing. All packages are clearly marked with product details, weight, and handling instructions to ensure safe arrival.
