TA7 Alloy Seamless Tube Thin Sheet

What is TA7 titanium?

TA7 alloy titanium is a titanium-aluminum-tin series alpha-type titanium alloy with moderate strength and excellent thermal stability. Its nominal composition is Ti-5Al-2.5Sn, meaning it is based on commercially pure titanium with the addition of 5% aluminum and 2.5% tin. This alloy possesses good mechanical properties at both room temperature and elevated temperatures, particularly exhibiting excellent creep resistance and structural stability at high temperatures, along with outstanding welding performance and corrosion resistance. The seamless tubes and thin sheets of TA7 alloy are two important processed product forms widely used in aerospace, chemical, medical, and other key industrial sectors.

Material Characteristics

Good Balance of Strength and Plasticity: In the annealed state, TA7 alloy has a moderate strength level while retaining good plasticity and toughness, facilitating cold and hot forming processes.

Excellent High-Temperature Performance and Thermal Stability: Capable of operating stably for long periods at temperatures between 450°C and 500°C. Its high-temperature creep strength is significantly better than that of commercially pure titanium, and it maintains stable microstructure and mechanical properties even after prolonged exposure in this temperature range, with no risk of phase embrittlement.

Outstanding Welding Performance: TA7 alloy is one of the titanium alloys with the best weldability. It can be welded using various methods such as argon arc welding, plasma welding, and electron beam welding. The welded joints exhibit high strength coefficients, and their properties are close to those of the base metal.

Excellent Corrosion Resistance: Inherits the superior general corrosion resistance of titanium materials. It demonstrates good resistance to atmosphere, seawater, chlorides, various oxidizing media, and organic acids.

Good Low-Temperature Performance: Maintains good plasticity and toughness even in ultra-low temperature environments (such as -196°C liquid nitrogen temperature), with low susceptibility to brittle fracture.

Primary Product Forms

TA7 Alloy Seamless Tube
TA7 seamless tubes are hollow pipes manufactured through hot working processes like extrusion or cross-rolling piercing, and have no weld seam. These tubes feature high pressure-bearing capacity, uniform circumferential properties, and good internal wall quality. They are commonly used to manufacture compressor pipelines and hydraulic pipelines for aircraft engines, heat exchange tubes in the nuclear industry, and transport pipelines in chemical equipment, especially for critical sections that need to withstand certain temperatures and pressures.

TA7 Alloy Thin Sheet
TA7 thin sheets are plate materials produced through hot rolling and cold rolling processes, typically with small thickness. This product features high surface quality, good dimensional accuracy, and excellent flatness. The sheet material is easy to form through processes like stamping, bending, and deep drawing. It is commonly used to manufacture aircraft skins, heat shields, various hatch covers, linings for chemical containers, and shielding components in medical equipment.

Application Fields

Aerospace: This is its primary application field. Used in manufacturing compressor casings, blade disks, and ducting systems for aircraft engines; as well as skins, firewalls, and various structural brackets for aircraft fuselages and wings.

Chemical Industry: Used in manufacturing corrosion-resistant reactors, towers, heat exchangers, pipelines, pumps, and valves, especially in applications involving high temperatures and corrosive media.

Nuclear Energy Industry: Due to its good radiation resistance and thermal stability, it is used for certain structural components and heat exchange systems in nuclear reactors.

Medical Equipment: Utilizing its biocompatibility and corrosion resistance, it can be used to manufacture shielding components for medical radiation equipment and brackets for special surgical instruments (Note: for components not in direct contact with the human body for implantation).

Brief Introduction to Production Process

The production of TA7 alloy follows a typical titanium alloy processing route. First, multiple melts in a vacuum arc remelting (VAR) furnace produce an ingot with uniform composition. This is followed by billet opening through hot working processes like forging and rolling. Seamless tubes are typically made into tube blanks by extrusion or cross-rolling piercing, then achieve final dimensions and properties through cold rolling (spinning) and annealing. Thin sheets are produced through hot rolling and multiple passes of cold rolling, with intermediate annealing processes to eliminate work hardening, ultimately obtaining sheets of the required thickness and condition.

Selection and Precautions

When selecting and using TA7 alloy seamless tubes or thin sheets, the following points require careful consideration:

Operating Temperature: The advantage of TA7 alloy lies in its stability at temperatures above 450°C. If the long-term operating temperature is below this range, consider alloys with higher strength or commercially pure titanium with lower cost.

Condition Selection: The material is usually supplied in the annealed condition (M) to obtain the best combination of strength and plasticity. Users should specify the corresponding condition based on subsequent forming requirements.

Processing and Protection: Although TA7 has excellent weldability, welding must still be performed under a strictly controlled inert atmosphere to prevent oxidation contamination. All hot working processes should control heating temperature and holding time to avoid excessive grain growth and gas contamination.

Titanium product packaging

We place great emphasis on the transportation safety and delivery quality of our products. All titanium materials are packaged using strict industrial-grade solutions: titanium tubes and bars undergo anti-rust treatment, are tightly wrapped with waterproof stretch film, and then placed in reinforced wooden or iron boxes lined with moisture-proof paper, with fillers added to prevent sliding and collisions during transportation. Titanium plates and strips are covered with protective film, fitted with edge protectors, separated layer by layer with moisture-proof paper, loaded onto sturdy wooden or steel pallets, and securely fastened with steel straps. Fine titanium wires are neatly coiled onto specialized spools and encapsulated in sealed boxes that are waterproof and dustproof. Each packaging unit is accompanied by clear product labels, material certificates, and moisture-proof indicators, ensuring that the goods remain intact, clearly labeled, and safely delivered to global customers through long-distance sea freight and multimodal transportation.
