Material Overview
Titanium Grade 12 (Ti-0.3Mo-0.8Ni, UNS R53400) is a titanium alloy alloyed with nickel and molybdenum, with excellent corrosion resistance and higher strength than Titanium Grade 2. It offers excellent resistance to acids and very good resistance to crevice corrosion in hot brines. Because of its higher strength, Grade 12 can be used with thinner walls than Grade 2 or Grade 7 under the same conditions.
Grade 12 vs Grade 2/3
Grade 12 resembles Grades 2 and 3, but with the addition of 0.3% molybdenum and 0.8% nickel. This alloying enhances strength, particularly at elevated temperatures, and improves creep resistance.

Applications
Chemical processing and hydrocarbon processing plants
Power generation and desalination plants
Marine applications and mining equipment
Strength Advantage
Beyond light weight, titanium offers exceptional strength: tubing of the same thickness is roughly twice as strong as stainless steel, allowing thinner, lighter tubing without compromising structural integrity.
FAQ
What is grade 12 titanium used for?
Titanium Grade 12 offers high strength, excellent heat and wear resistance, and superior weldability. It is commonly used in industries such as chemical processing, power generation, desalination, marine applications, hydrocarbon processing, and mining.
Are titanium pipes good?
Beyond its light weight, titanium boasts exceptional strength. Titanium tubing of the same thickness is twice as strong as stainless steel, allowing for the use of thinner, lighter-weight tubing without compromising structural integrity.
What is the difference between titanium Grade 2 and Grade 12?
This Titanium Grade 12 alloy is similar to Titanium Grades 2 and 3, but with the addition of 0.3% molybdenum and 0.8% nickel. 1 This alloying enhances its strength, particularly at elevated temperatures, and improves its creep resistance.
