What is GR6 titanium?

Grade 6 is classified as a near-alpha alloy. Its composition-5% aluminum and 2.5% tin-is carefully balanced to enhance strength while maintaining the favorable characteristics of alpha-phase titanium:

Excellent Weldability: Unlike some alpha-beta alloys, Grade 6 can be welded reliably in most environments, making it suitable for fabricated structures.

Good Strength Retention at Temperature: It maintains useful mechanical properties at temperatures up to approximately 315°C (600°F), outperforming Grade 5 in this regime.

Superior Creep Resistance: Its alpha structure provides better resistance to deformation under sustained load at elevated temperatures compared to alpha-beta alloys.

Comparison with Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V)

The choice between Grade 6 and Grade 5 is rarely ambiguous; it is dictated by the operating conditions.

Choose Grade 6 if: Your design operates consistently above 150°C (300°F), requires extensive, reliable welding, or demands superior creep resistance. Cryogenic applications also favor Grade 6.

Choose Grade 5 if: You require maximum room-temperature strength, better fatigue performance in most conditions, or superior forgability. Grade 5 is also the default for biomedical implants.

Titanium product packaging

We place great emphasis on the transportation safety and delivery quality of our products. All titanium materials are packaged using strict industrial-grade solutions: titanium tubes and bars undergo anti-rust treatment, are tightly wrapped with waterproof stretch film, and then placed in reinforced wooden or iron boxes lined with moisture-proof paper, with fillers added to prevent sliding and collisions during transportation. Titanium plates and strips are covered with protective film, fitted with edge protectors, separated layer by layer with moisture-proof paper, loaded onto sturdy wooden or steel pallets, and securely fastened with steel straps. Fine titanium wires are neatly coiled onto specialized spools and encapsulated in sealed boxes that are waterproof and dustproof.
