Product Introduction

Titanium Grade 2 Square Tubes are used to manufacture machined components with properties that fall between Grade 1 and Grade 3 specifications. As one of the most common grades of commercially pure titanium, Grade 2 Rectangular Tubes offer a balance of purity, mechanical strength, and durability. These tubes are known for their low weight, excellent mechanical properties, good thermal performance, and corrosion resistance.

Titanium Grade 2 Electropolish Tubes, like their hexagonal counterparts, undergo a transformation from a hexagonal close-packed alpha phase to a body-centered cubic beta phase at temperatures around 882.5°C (1620.5°F). This phase change contributes to their versatile applications and high performance in demanding environments.

Below are some common standard specifications for GR2 titanium alloys:
1. ASTM B265: This is the standard specification for GR2 titanium sheet, plate, strip, bar and ring, which includes the chemical composition, mechanical properties, and processing requirements for GR2 titanium alloy sheet.
2. ASTM B348: This is the standard specification for GR2 titanium and titanium alloy bars, rods, and other products, which is used to regulate the chemical composition, mechanical properties, and processing requirements of GR2 titanium alloy bars.
3. ASTM B861: This is the standard specification for GR2 titanium and titanium alloy seamless tubes and pipes, which specifies the dimensions, chemical composition, mechanical properties, and other requirements for GR2 titanium alloy seamless tubes and pipes.

FAQ

Q1: What is the maximum operating temperature for GR2 titanium tubes?

GR2 titanium maintains good mechanical properties up to approximately 300°C (570°F). Above this temperature, oxidation resistance decreases and strength may be reduced. For higher temperature applications, consider Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V) or Grade 7.

Q2: Can GR2 titanium tubes be bent?

Yes. GR2 has excellent ductility and can be bent using standard tube bending equipment. Minimum bend radius typically ranges from 2-3 × tube diameter, depending on wall thickness and bending method.

Q3: What is the difference between GR2 seamless and welded tubes?

Seamless tubes – Made from solid billet, no weld seam, preferred for high-pressure or critical applications

Welded tubes – Made from strip with a longitudinal weld, more economical, suitable for most applications when properly welded and inspected

Both types are acceptable under ASTM B338 when manufactured to specification.

Q4: How do I prevent iron contamination of GR2 titanium?

Iron contamination can lead to localized corrosion. Follow these guidelines:

Use dedicated titanium handling tools (or clean stainless steel)

Avoid contact with carbon steel during storage and handling

If contamination occurs, remove by pickling or passivation

Store separately from other metals

Q5: What finishes are available for GR2 titanium tubes?

Pickled – Matte gray finish, most common

Polished (external) – Bright finish for aesthetic applications

Polished (internal) – Smooth ID for reduced fouling

Ground – Precise dimensional control

Q6: How do GR2 tubes compare to GR7 tubes?

GR2 – Standard corrosion resistance, economical choice for most applications

GR7 – Enhanced corrosion resistance (with palladium), for highly aggressive environments

Packaging of GR2 seamless titanium tubes

Titanium Welded Pipe

Our GR2 titanium straight tubes are packaged with a multi-layer protection system to ensure they arrive in pristine condition. Each tube is first individually wrapped or interleaved with protective materials such as kraft paper, foam, or plastic spacers to prevent surface contact and scratching. The bundled tubes are then secured with steel or plastic strapping, with edge protectors applied to prevent strap damage. For moisture protection during sea freight, the bundles are wrapped in a layer of waterproof VCI (Vapor Corrosion Inhibitor) paper or plastic film, often including desiccant packs. Finally, the tubes are securely packed in robust wooden crates or steel-framed export pallets, clearly labeled with grade, specifications, heat number, and shipping marks for full traceability and safe handling.
