Titanium Welded Pipe ASTM B862

Titanium is a metal that combines with oxygen at ambient temperatures to form titanium dioxide. This is why titanium has good corrosion resistance. However, since the melting temperature of the external oxide layer is much higher than that of the base metal, it must be removed before welding. When heated, titanium combines with oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen and carbon to form oxide layers of varying thicknesses, which give titanium its many colors.
