Material Selection And Testing Of Titanium Castings

Titanium castings, as important components in the mechanical field, have been widely used. Compared with traditional metal castings, titanium castings offer advantages such as lightness, strength, and corrosion resistance. They have important applications in aviation, aerospace, automotive, and medical fields. However, material selection and testing are crucial steps when using titanium castings.

I. Material Selection for Titanium Castings

1. Titanium Alloy Selection: When selecting titanium casting materials, it is necessary to choose a different titanium alloy based on the specific application environment. Currently, there are many types of titanium alloys, such as α+β, β, and α. Among them, TA2, TA6V, TC4, and Ti-6242 are commonly used.

• TA2 titanium alloy: Features good processability, weldability, high plasticity, good low-temperature resistance, micro-corrosion resistance, and hot steam resistance.

• TA6V alloy: A typical α+β titanium alloy, it offers high strength, corrosion resistance, and fatigue resistance, and is widely used in the aviation and aerospace fields. • TC4 alloy: A relatively uniform composition among α+β titanium alloys, it exhibits high mechanical properties and good corrosion resistance.
• Ti-6242 alloy: A β-type titanium alloy with high strength, high ductility, and good thermal expansion properties, it is widely used in aviation manufacturing.
2. Purity Requirements for Titanium Alloys: The purity of titanium alloys significantly impacts mechanical, physical, and processability. Typically, the required purity corresponds to a total impurity content of less than 0.1%.
3. The Impact of Other Product Requirements: When selecting titanium casting materials, factors such as the product's performance requirements, usage requirements, current production processes, and development trends must also be considered.
