A large number of industrial use as a corrosion-resistant material is still industrial pure titanium. This is because the industrial pure titanium for seawater, wet chlorine gas and oxidising, neutral, weak reducing and add corrosion inhibitor reducing medium with good corrosion resistance; and comprehensive mechanical properties and processing performance is also superior; price is also lower than titanium alloy. Therefore, only in the case of industrial pure titanium can not meet the requirements of corrosion resistance, before the use of other corrosion-resistant titanium alloy.
Grade 2 titanium alloy plate has moderate corrosion resistance and comprehensive mechanical properties. Grade 1 titanium plate can be used when better moulding properties are required. In some cases, especially in strong oxidising or reducing acids, the presence of iron impurities in titanium causes changes in the metallurgical organisation of the heat-affected zone, reducing its corrosion resistance. Under such conditions, the iron content in titanium should be considered to be no more than 0.05 per cent.
