Titanium Sheet Metal
Lightweight, strong, and corrosion-resistant, titanium is abundant in nature. The tensile strength of titanium and its alloys ranges from 30,000 psi to 200,000 psi (210-1380 MPa), which is equivalent to the tensile strength of most alloy steels. Titanium is only 56% as dense as steel and has corrosion resistance comparable to that of platinum. Of all the elements in the earth's crust, titanium is the ninth most abundant. Titanium has a melting point of 3,135°F (1,725°C). This melting point is about 400°F (220°C) higher than the melting point of steel and about 2000°F (1100°C) higher than the melting point of aluminum. In addition, titanium has the advantage of a very thin surface film of conductive oxides and a hard, smooth surface that limits the adhesion of foreign materials.
